You tend not to find parking meters in Morocco, which initially seems like a gift from God until you discover that like in many parts of Spain you are subject to random individuals charging you for parking, or maybe more realistically you paying them not to steel anything from it themselves.
It is best to ask a local you know and trust where to park or if you are staying in a hotel ask the reception where is safe to leave your car. In the cities there are maybe more official parking attendants easily recognizable by their blue dust coats. They will help you by finding you a place to park and sometimes assist you with your shopping etc. They work for themselves or for a company and can be trusted to an extent. As with everything in Morocco, make sure negotiate how much you will pay for parking before leaving your car. The normal cost is a few Dirhams, maybe 10 for a night. You can sometimes find car parks with guards to look after your car and once again be careful. Negotiate exactly how much it will cost and be sure what you are paying for. You might come back and find your car has been washed, even though you didn’t request it, so be sure of everything before leaving your car there. It is a bit more expensive but at least you can travel around with peace of mind afterwards. Fines for illegal parking range from 600 to 1,500 dirham and in the main cities, you run the risk of having your car towed away if you park illegally.
