The Moroccan open skies policy

From 5.5 million passengers in 2003 to more than 8.5 Million in 2006 and plans to see more than 10 Million passengers fly to Morocco by 2010.

The Moroccan open skies policy was signed and agreed between Morocco and the European Union on December 2006.  Probably one of the most important decisions made by Morocco to increase tourism to their country.  The idea is for there to be a synchronisation between the number of beds available to tourists and a number of seats (air seats) available.

The benefits of this new policy...

The benefits of this new policy have already started to improve communication between European cities and Moroccan destinations.  The liberation of the sky is Morocco have created the following-

  • New airlines are flying to Moroccan destinations
  • European low-cost airlines are flying to Moroccan destinations
  • Atlas Blue and Jet 4 You are Moroccan low-cost airlines newly created
  • Plans in place to linking major Moroccan destinations (airports)

In parallel with these new policies, new airlines and destinations they are also been new incentives it in place to encourage businesses and airline into the Moroccan sector and also passengers flying into Morocco.  There is a new policy for airport taxes which has helped in increasing new flight plans and air links with Morocco.  Another move that has improved things greatly is a drop in the prices of handling baggage and baggage handling in airports being privatised.

The benefit at the end of the day for investors buying property in Morocco houses and flats is the increase in tourism and ease off homeowners being able to travel to Morocco from European destinations.  British investors wanting to buy a second home in Morocco or investing in property popular destinations such as Saidia, Tangier, Tetouan need only look to the new flight plans of EasyJet and Ryanair to see the potential for investment.
